Scope
The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) required contingency power support for its emergency power operations and maintenance program at the New Kabul Compound in Afghanistan. This location serves as the primary headquarters for US Forces in Afghanistan.
To increase efficiency, the USACE needed within an accelerated schedule new switchgears and generators as well as the removal of old generators in its existing power plants at the New Kabul Compound. LBS combined two existing power plants into one capable of producing 5 MW of continuous power. The new switchgear allowed the generators to be connected to a common bus prior to distributing the power, providing a more efficient power plant. We upgraded generators on the site to share the complete site load between all working generator sets, forming the combined power plant in 189 days, while performing operations and maintenance duties.
